Flagship Projects Of Rotary Club Of Calcutta Mahanagar
Heart Surgeries

Since 2006 when our Past President Rtn. Dr. R. P. Vidhawan started this project of curing Congenital Heart Disease which are mostly defects in the Anatomy of the heart like hole in the wall (Septum) between two chambers of heart, we have been able to cure 150 Children from the poorest of poor by providing free heart surgeries to them at the two best Hospitals in town, B. M. Birla Heart Research Centre and R. N. Tagore Institute of Cardiac Science.

Netralaya

Eyecare has always been one of the focus areas of our Club. We understand what it can mean for a person not being able to see and we have felt that the joy of being able to make someone see again in life is indeed unmatched. Spearheaded by our member Rtn. Gyan Poddar who himself is blind, we have done eye checkups for more than 1.5 lac persons and surgeries to more than 5000 people in the last five years.

Udayer Pathey

With Asia Heart Foundation, our partners in service in this programme, we have in last 2 years selected 257 meritorious students from rural India, who have the desire to take up the medical profession, and providing scholarship from 7th standard to 12th standard. The students are selected through examinations from various schools in the small towns and villages of West Bengal.

Muskaan

The prisons in India and the poor treatment of the prisoners is well known. What is not so well known is the inhuman treatment that the family of the prisoner has to suffer for no fault of theirs. The prisoners' family members try their best to continue the education of their children, but most often these children have to abandon studies and take up work as domestic help or labourer or rag picker or such other jobs to support the family.

Swavalamban

At Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar we believe that it is good to teach a person to make a fishing net rather than give him a fish everyday. Project Swavalamban is the mega micro credit project of the Club, which has been initiated by Past President Rtn. Sajjan Shroff in the year 2005-06. The Club has over the years, already helped more than 1000 poor unemployed people by providing soft interest free loans of more than one crore till now,

Bloodline

Blood is our lifeline. Often we come across urgent need of blood and are unable to find donors. The Blood Banks are also unable to provide the requisite blood.

To overcome the situation, we are starting a Blood Helpline as a virtual blood bank. Anyone needing blood can call up the phone number, which shall be well publicized and will be able to get blood.

India Haat

Our annual three day fund raiser Exhibition cum Sale at Ice Skating Rink is the talk of the town with celebrities and public thronging. With proper selection of exhibitors and excellent decor, infrastructure and facilities, we have been able to get a special recognition.

Matching Grants

Rotary International has a system of issuing Matching Grant to deserving Projects in return for the contribution we make to it from time to time.

Realizing the importance of timely filing, reporting and other formalities we have assigned this important task to a committee of Club membersto operate on long term basis.
