Water has always been one of the major thrust areas of Rotary.
It is indeed the perennial source of life as it offers so much to the life of every person - water for drinking, water for irrigation, water for industry, water for vegetation etc.

A cursory look will show us abundance of wate but the facts are:
o 97% of the earth's water is seawater - unfit to drink,
o Of the 3% that in fit to drink. 70% is in glaciers or polar ice-cops.
o Only 1% is available tn support life.

Fresh water is vulnerable and finite and essential resource to sustain life, development and the environment . While the government tries to do its best regarding water issues, the efforts are not enough. We have a role to play.

Realizing this need, Rotary has given great emphasis on water issues. We feel there is so much we can do regarding water
matters - revising the water table, water harvesting, water saving, providing clean drinking water, providing water for irrigation etc.

To discuss the scope of work that Rotarians can do through Rotary clubs as well as districts, to share the success stories of the work already done and to plan the future course, of action for water matters, Rotary International Water Conference 2007 will be held in Kolkata on 10th December, 2007. The meeting will also be attended by many dignitaries from the government and experts on Water Issues.

Rotary International President Wilfred J. Wilkinson along with other members of the Board of Directors and senior leaders of Rotary will be present for this very special meet We are sure you too would be there along with fellow Rotarians and their spouses.
