At Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar we believe that it is good to teach a person to make a fishing net rather than give him a fish everyday.
Project Swavalamban is the mega micro credit project of the Club, which has been initiated by Past President Rtn. Sajjan Shroff in the year 2005-06. The Club has over the years, already helped more than 1000 poor unemployed people by providing soft interest free loans of more than one crore till now, for purchasing sewing machines, cycle vans, rickshaw vans etc. and for vocational training in vocations like driving, nursing etc.
Our experience shows that the amounts are refunded by the recipients and there is very few default.
This year we propose to touch the lives of more than 200 families and empower them to start their own vocation.
